IDOP 2026: An Opportunity to Put Older Persons’ Rights and Healthy Ageing at the Centre of Kenya’s Agenda
The International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) 2026 Conference provides an important national platform for examining how Kenya can strengthen systems, policies and community action to support healthy ageing and uphold the rights of older persons.
Held from 30 September to 2 October 2026, the conference will focus on “Advancing Healthy Aging and Older Persons’ Rights: Coordinated Health, Social Protection, and Community Action.”
Ethel Foundation for the Aged (EFA) welcomes the call for abstracts and encourages researchers, practitioners, policymakers, civil society organizations, older persons’ organizations and community actors to contribute evidence and practical experience to the national dialogue.
The five conference tracks provide opportunities to examine the state of ageing in Kenya; health systems, universal health coverage and sustainable financing; healthy ageing, social protection and age-friendly communities; data, research, innovation and technology; and partnerships, policy and national action.
The abstract submission deadline has been extended to 31 August 2026.
For EFA, meaningful progress on ageing requires older persons to be recognized not merely as recipients of care, but as rights-holders, citizens, contributors and participants in decisions that affect their lives.
The IDOP 2026 Conference is therefore an opportunity to bring evidence, lived experience and practical solutions into the spaces where Kenya’s ageing policies and systems are being shaped.
