The World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly was instituted by Pope Francis in 2021 and is marked annually on the fourth Sunday of July, near the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne — the grandparents of Jesus. The Catholic Church established this day to: Honor the wisdom, faith, and life experiences of older persons. Promote intergenerational dialogue.
